Guest Post: Verbal Melange

I'm currently traveling through Africa on my honeymoon, but I've lined up a handful of guest posts from my favorite blogs while I'm gone. Enjoy!

I'm so excited to have Emma here from Verbal Mélange to Guest Post today. Emma's wedding is just around the corner, and she blogs about wedding planning, fashion, decor and more.

Hi all! Emma here from Verbal Mélange, guest posting for Bri as she gets married/goes on the honeymoon of a lifetime in Africa! I’m insanely jealous, not only because homegirl gets to go to freaking Africa, but also because all of her wedding- planning stuff is over. My own wedding is in just over three months, and it is stress central over here!

But enough about all that. I’m here today to bring you an outfit of the day! I wore this to work on a casual Friday back in December. I work in state-level government, but I’m lucky in that my office is fairly relaxed. On casual Friday, it’s not uncommon to see folks in sweatshirts and sneakers, but I like to class things up a bit with fun colors or semi-casual pieces. One of my favorite pairings for a cas-Fri (yes, I just made that up and yes, I will use it forever) is skinny jeans with a blazer. The combo is professional but laid-back, and it transitions seamlessly to happy hour drinks with friends or dinner with my fiancé. Because Friday!

This outfit makes it seem like I wear a ton of Old Navy. Actually, I think these items together make up about 75 percent of ALL my Old Navy wear. I mostly just get basic tees from them, and my enthusiasm for even those has waned since the whole “hey we’re opening super early on Thanksgiving Day because we apparently value profits more than our employees” thing this past year. As a former retail worker myself, I just can’t support stores with those kinds of hours. If Old Navy is anything like my former job, Black Friday shifts are non-trade-able and non-request-off-able.
Anyway. Didn’t mean to have a whole tangent there.

Bad habit of mine, that one :) So once upon a time, I was really afraid to wear color. Most of my wardrobe was black and gray, and I only wore one bright color at a time. But I’ve become more adventurous since I started blogging nearly four years ago, and I’ve now worked my way up to mostly-color outfits with gray accents, instead of the other way around. It was still a little nerve-wracking for me, but after looking at these photos I know I made the right choice.

Welp, that wraps it up for me. Feel free to stop by my blog any time to rant about stores, share your color-fearing (or color-loving) woes, or just to say hello! And congrats to Bri and her new hubby—I hope the two of you have an amazing time on your safari adventures!
