I've been wanting to try Whole30 for a LONG time, and finally decided to just bite the bullet and do it. I used my travel schedule as a reason I couldn't do it...and while it will make it a LOT harder, I think I can make it work. I did a quick four-day trial last week before leaving for my birthday weekend, and even with a work trip in there, it wasn't impossible. Here are my thoughts as I start:
I read a million things about Whole30 and they all say the key to success is to PLAN. Here's how I planned prior to last week:
- I started following a few instagram accounts (some thanks to your recommendations) like Whole30, Whole30Recipes, and Whole30 co-creater Melissa Hartwig.
- I did some reading on the Whole30 website to understand the rules, the goals, and some recommendations.
- I re-read some blog posts by bloggers who had done Whole30 or who write about whole foods, like Anne and Grace (so glad she's back) and Ali. From Anne I found this blog, which also is helping a ton.
I officially start today, and since I was traveling all the way until late last night, I had to do some creative prep. First, I ordered an AmazonFresh order to arrive first thing this morning (unattended delivery before 6am? yes please!). In my order was a whole organic chicken, some Aidells chicken & apple sausage, a spaghetti squash, and tons of fruits and veggies. We luck out with eggs, because our chickens are finally producing again, so no need to buy those!
Then, first thing this morning, I hard-boiled half a dozen eggs, fried up a few for breakfast, and prepped lunch for Travis - he's agreed to do Whole30 with me, which is awesome! I have a work lunch today, so I'll be picking a salad with a protein and dressing it myself with some oil & vinegar. Wish me luck!
I'll be posting my meals on Snapchat for those of you who are interested in following along - username is bmarie35 or you can click here. And while this blog won't become about food, I will be posting at my halfway point and once I'm finished, so share any recipes, ideas, tips/tricks you have in the comments and I'll be sure to include my favorite suggestions in those posts!
And with that...here.we.go!
